Sea Freight

FCL and LCL ocean transport on the world’s main trade lanes, with weekly consolidation services and full port-side coordination.

FCL, LCL and breakbulk

Sea freight carries the largest share of world trade by volume, and for good reason: on high-volume, lower-urgency flows nothing else comes close on cost per tonne. Egeo Logistics arranges full container loads (FCL), less-than-container loads (LCL) and breakbulk shipments on the main trade lanes, with the port handling, documentation and inland legs coordinated from the same desk.

An FCL booking gives you an entire container: fastest at the terminal, least handling, and normally the better rate once your volume passes roughly fifteen cubic metres. An LCL consignment shares a container with other cargo and is charged on the greater of volume and weight, which makes ocean transport viable for a handful of pallets. Breakbulk covers cargo that will not fit a container at all and is loaded piece by piece.

Equipment and cargo types

  • 20-foot and 40-foot standard containers for general palletised and cased cargo.
  • 40-foot high cube where the extra internal height changes the stacking plan.
  • Reefer containers for temperature-controlled food and pharmaceutical products.
  • Open top and flat rack for pieces that exceed door height or container width.
  • Tank containers for approved bulk liquids.

Documentation, demurrage and detention

Most of the unexpected cost in sea freight is not the ocean rate — it is the charges that begin once the container lands. Demurrage runs while the box sits inside the terminal; detention runs while it sits outside, at your premises, waiting to be unpacked and returned. We tell you the free-time allowance in writing at the booking stage and we push the customs entry forward so that clearance is ready when the vessel berths.

We prepare and check the bill of lading, the packing list, the commercial invoice, the certificate of origin and any preferential documents your buyer needs to claim a reduced duty rate. Errors on these documents are corrected before the vessel sails, when correction is still free.

On high-volume, lower-urgency flows nothing comes close to sea freight on cost per tonne — provided the charges after the vessel berths are planned for.

Watch the free time, not just the rate

A cheap ocean rate with five days of free time can end up more expensive than a higher rate with fourteen. We quote both figures together so the comparison is honest.

Frequently asked questions

Broadly, up to about thirteen to fifteen cubic metres LCL usually wins; above that a 20-foot container is normally cheaper even if it is not full. We calculate both for your actual volume before recommending one.

Yes. Inland haulage from the discharge port to the final address, including any customs formalities, is part of the door-to-door service.

We do. Tell us the required temperature range, whether ventilation or controlled atmosphere is needed, and any certification the destination requires, and we will confirm equipment availability on the lane.

Why it works

Three things we do differently

Lane discipline

Weekly consolidation departures and named carrier options, so you can plan production against a schedule rather than an estimate.

Consolidation that pays

Several suppliers combined into one container reduces both the ocean cost and the number of customs entries you pay for.

Documents checked twice

Bill of lading, origin and preferential certificates verified before sailing, while a correction still costs nothing.
