Project & Heavy Lift Cargo

Out-of-gauge and heavy indivisible loads planned end to end: route surveys, permits, lifting plans and escorted transport.

When the cargo will not fit the rules

Project cargo begins where standard freight ends: a transformer that exceeds the axle limit, a vessel section wider than the lane, a press that has to be lifted over a factory wall. These moves are not solved by a rate — they are solved by a plan, and the plan has to exist before the equipment is ordered.

Egeo Logistics manages out-of-gauge and heavy indivisible loads end to end: the route survey, the permits, the lifting arrangements, the securing plan and the escorted transport itself, together with the customs formalities that go with them.

The survey comes first

Every project move starts with two surveys. The technical survey establishes the real dimensions, the centre of gravity, the lifting points and the securing requirements. The route survey establishes whether the vehicle can physically get there: bridge capacities, overhead clearances, roundabout radii, gradients and the width of the last two hundred metres, which is where most projects actually fail.

Only after both are complete do we issue a costed plan. That plan states what has been assumed, what has been verified and what still needs a decision from you — because a project quotation with hidden assumptions is not a quotation.

Permits, escorts and lifting

Abnormal load permits are issued by the road authority for a specific vehicle, a specific route and a specific window. Escorts, police accompaniment where required and any temporary removal of street furniture are arranged against that permit. On site, lifting is carried out to a written lift plan with the crane capacity, radius and ground bearing pressure calculated in advance.

Marine and multimodal legs are coordinated in the same file: flat rack or open top containers, breakbulk stowage, roll-on/roll-off where the piece can travel on its own wheels, and the port handling and quayside crane bookings that go with them.

Bridges, clearances and turning radii can all be checked in advance. The last two hundred metres is where most projects actually fail.

What the service includes

  • Technical and route surveys before quotation
  • Abnormal load permits and escorted transport
  • Lifting plans, crane selection and ground bearing checks
  • Lashing, securing and stowage calculations
  • Flat rack, open top, breakbulk and roll-on/roll-off options
  • Port handling and heavy-lift quay coordination
  • Customs formalities for project consignments
  • Marine and all-risk project cargo insurance

Involve logistics before the machine is bought

Dimensions that are fixed at the order stage decide whether a move costs a little or a great deal. A short feasibility check at that point is the highest-value hour in the whole project.

Frequently asked questions

For a permitted abnormal load in Europe, four to eight weeks is a realistic lead time once the surveys are complete. Complex marine or multi-country moves need longer, mainly because permit windows and quayside crane slots have to align.

We arrange them. Crane capacity, radius, rigging and the ground preparation are specified in the lift plan and contracted through qualified lifting partners under our coordination.

Yes. Temporary admission, ATA carnets, transit and permanent import procedures for project equipment are handled on the same file as the transport.

Why it works

Three things we do differently

Engineered, not estimated

Lift plans, securing calculations and ground bearing pressures worked out on paper before anything leaves the ground.

The route is verified

Bridges, clearances, radii and the final approach checked physically — the last two hundred metres decide the project.

Risk written down

Permits, escorts, insurance and contingency arrangements agreed in advance and recorded in the transport plan.
