Rail Freight

Block train and wagon-group services on the Middle Corridor and intra-European routes — a lower-emission alternative for steady, high-volume flows.

A predictable middle ground

Rail sits between road and sea: faster than ocean transport, cheaper than road on long distances, and considerably lower in emissions than either per tonne-kilometre. For steady, high-volume flows that do not need door-to-door speed, it is often the mode that has been overlooked rather than the one that does not fit.

Egeo Logistics arranges block train and wagon-group services on European routes and on the Middle Corridor connecting Türkiye with the Caucasus and Central Asia, together with the road legs at each end that turn a station-to-station service into a door-to-door one.

How rail services are built

  • Block trains — an entire train dedicated to one flow, with the shortest and most predictable transit.
  • Wagon groups — a set of wagons attached to a scheduled service, suited to regular medium volumes.
  • Single wagons — economical for occasional shipments where transit time is flexible.
  • Intermodal — containers or swap bodies moved by rail on the long leg and by road at each end.

What rail does well, and what it does not

Rail rewards volume and regularity. If you ship the same commodity on the same lane every week, a rail solution will usually reduce both your cost and your reported emissions without hurting service. It is less suited to small, irregular consignments, to cargo with very tight delivery windows, and to routes where the gauge change or the terminal handling adds more time than the line haul saves.

We will say so when that is the case. The honest comparison — rail against road against sea, with real transit times and total landed cost — is more useful to you than a rail booking that disappoints.

Rail rewards volume and regularity. Where it does not fit, the honest comparison is worth more to you than the booking.

What the service includes

  • Block trains for dedicated, high-volume flows
  • Wagon groups and single wagon services
  • Intermodal rail–road combinations
  • Middle Corridor and intra-European routes
  • Terminal handling and first/last mile haulage
  • Container, swap body and conventional wagon loading
  • Customs transit documentation
  • Emissions reporting for the rail leg

Rail rewards regularity

The economics work best on repeating flows. If you are moving the same lane weekly or monthly, ask us to model a rail or intermodal option against your current road cost — the comparison takes a day.

Frequently asked questions

On the long haul it is usually a little slower, but it is often more predictable because it is not exposed to border queues and driving-time limits. On some Middle Corridor routes rail is materially faster than the road alternative.

Yes — that is the normal arrangement. We handle the road collection, the rail line haul and the road delivery as a single intermodal movement.

Steady volumes of non-perishable general cargo, raw materials, machinery, packaged chemicals and containerised goods. Very small or extremely time-critical consignments are usually better on road or air.

Why it works

Three things we do differently

Schedule you can plan on

Fixed departures and published transit times make rail easier to build a production plan around than a congested road corridor.

Lower emissions per tonne

Rail typically produces a fraction of the CO₂ of road transport over the same distance — useful when you report on scope 3.

Intermodal by default

Rail on the long leg, road at each end: one contract, one invoice, and the handover points managed by us.
